Schedule of Regular Meeting Activities
Meetings for Worship:
We have two meetings for worship on Sundays (First day), one starting at 8:30 am and the other starting at 10:30 am.
Child Care and First Day School Lessons:
Supervision and childcare for younger children is regularly provided during the 10:30 Meeting for Worship time. First Day School classes (ages 5-12) are held on the 1st and 2nd and 3rd First Days ( Sunday) of the month. Our FDS is small but active and we welcome new families at any time. The older children often join the later (10:30) Meeting for Worship during the last 15 minutes, on every First Day. This gives them a chance to experience silent worship, practice centering themselves and to hear or voice vocal ministry. Our mission: To create a loving community of adults and children in First Day School where we can experience, understand and practice Quaker Faith.
Third Sunday of every Month (except for Holidays, July and August) at the rise of second meeting (a little after 11:30 am). All are welcome to join Friends for potluck lunch, whether you have time to bring a dish to pass or not.
Adult Religious Education Discussions:
Are held on the second and fourth Sundays of every month (September to June) between the two meetings for workshop (starting a little after 9:35 am and ending around 10:20 am).
Monthly Meeting for Business:
Third Sunday of every month (except for Holidays, July and August) after the rise of second meeting for worship (starting around 12:30 after a potluck lunch).
PFM Library Information
PFM has several bookshelves with books, magazines, and even a few DVDs on contemplative spirituality; faith-based activism; comparative religion; Quaker history, faith, and practice; and a variety of social and environmental concerns. These Library book shelves are located in the foyer right outside of the main meeting room where we hold our meetings for worship.
All PFM members, regular attenders, and visitors are welcome to borrow books on the honor system. Just please remember the books you take out of the Library and return them in a timely manner. There are some real treasures in our Library and we are happy to share them with anyone interested in our collection. For more information on studying the Quaker Way look to the list of key books and seven half hour videos on Quaker history, faith, and practice in the right hand column on this website.
Our First Day School also has an extensive library of children’s books, curricula, resource material and books of reference in the Fellowship Room behind the PFM kitchen. While these collections are intended largely for the use of First Day School and the Meeting at large, attenders and visitors are welcome to borrow materials. Please be sure to sign your item out through the card catalog box and return it when done to the “Return Here” shelf. First Day School Committee members are happy to reshelve books.
PFM Officers and Committees
Most Quaker congregations in New England do not employ pastors or staff, but choose to operate on a hands-on, participatory, all-volunteer basis instead. Besides choosing volunteer officers such as our Clerk, Assistant Clerk, Recording Clerk, Treasurer, and Records Keeper, we also organize and conduct the work of Putney Friends Meeting through a variety of active committees. Here is an alphabetical list of our key committees:

PFM Organizational Affiliations in the Wider Quaker World
Putney Friends Meeting (PFM) is an active part of the larger Religious Society of Friends. We are a member of a regional association of Quakers called New England Yearly Meeting (NEYM). NEYM, in turn, is affiliated with two national associations called Friends General Conference (FGC) and Friends United Meeting (FUM). Both FGC and FUM are also associated with a global association called Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC). We are thus connected to other Quakers locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
