World Quaker Day, El Día Mundial de los Cuáqueros, La Journée Mondiale Quaker

4 Oct. 2015

Friends World Committee for Consultation…

. . . invites every Quaker meeting and church from around the world to celebrate WORLD QUAKER DAY (WQD) on October 4, 2015. As the sun rises in each area of the world, we want to remember that Quakers are worshiping through every time zone, celebrating our deep connections across cultures and Quaker traditions. We are united in love and can accompany each other on this special day that draws us together. As we worship, let us hold each other in prayer and thanksgiving, and let our hymns of praise resound across the world.

The theme of the Plenary is Living the transformation: Creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God (Romans 8:19). More information can be found on the World Office website.

One response to “World Quaker Day, El Día Mundial de los Cuáqueros, La Journée Mondiale Quaker”

  1. Well, we have coming up this Tuesday the so-called “International Day of Peace.” What about the other 364 days? Is the UN so bad at making peace that they have decided to merely designate this one day as a symbolic commemoration of what they are supposed to create and preserve?

So now it is we Quakers, who historically have inveigned against “special days and commemorations” for reasons very much like the one given above, who are adopting and approving a “World Quaker Day”. Y’know if we really did everything we could do to make peace, save lives, and live up to the true meaning of our creed (such as it is), we might be worth celebrating and commemorating for it.

In the meantime, where is “World Catholic Day”, “the Global Day of Jews”, “the Annual Buddhist Extravaganza”, the “Universal Day of Islam”, etc.? I think you get my drift.

Have our current Quaker “leaders” (are we really supposed to have these?) truly not studying enough about Quakerism to understand the thrust and the nature of our testimonies over time?

What does thee say?
